First Grader Punished for Bag of Dirt
Yes, that’s right a first grader has been punished to two days of in-school detention for a bag of dirt. This is another one of those no tolerance policies gone bad. It seems 6-year-old Michaela Boyd was playing on the playground at her school when she found a plastic bag on the ground. Michaela then got the idea to make her friend a gift. She then put rocks, dirt and clover in the bag, tied it with a ponytail holder and gave it to her friend. After recess her friend gave the bag of dirt to the teacher and that’s when her innocent gift of a 6 year olds heart became tainted. At a meeting that the teacher and the principal had with Michaela’s mom, Michelle, they told her that the bag “looked like a bag of weed.” Michelle also said this about the meeting, “They said it would be on her school record as far as disciplinary that she made a look alike drug but I don’t feel like that’s right. Because she didn’t do anything wrong.”
