So January Is Over

Mindi - 01.31.2005 @ 11:38:pm - -

Well the first month of the new year is over and man it has been and eventful one for us! Sometimes I don’t know if we’re coming or going, but overall it’s been a good start to the new year. I don’t really believe in New Years Resolutions, but Richard and I did make some plans for the new year and so far that is going pretty well. My mom’s dialysis is going smoothly right now and we are all thankful for that. And Richard and I are gearing up to get a few projects done and off our plate so we have time for other, more important, projects. Overall I think if we can keep up the pace and the determination that we have had this month in some of these areas throughout this year, we will be amazed at the amount of things we will have accomplished. I pray that God directs us in the way he wants us to go with these projects and that they prosper in ways we have never dreamed of.

May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand this year.

Why I Will Never Be A Liberal

Mindi - 01.30.2005 @ 7:45:pm - -

Today is a historic day for Iraqis everywhere in the world; the chance to cast their vote and let their voice be heard. It’s a new beginning of their country and their lives and they are coming out to vote despite the terrorists’ (that’s what they are, using the term ‘insurgents’ just desensitizes us to the atrocities they are committing) plans to disrupt and destroy polling locations. The pictures of some of the voters and the looks on some of their faces really says it all:
Woman with tears in her eyes after casting her vote.
With tears rolling down her eyes, a veiled Iraqi woman shows off her finger stained with blue ink and a small card reading ‘Elect Iraq ‘ after she cast her vote in a polling station in Amman, January 30, 2005. REUTERS/Ali Jarekji
Woman being carried so she could cast her vote.
Elderly woman being carried so that she can cast her vote.
Man getting emotional about voting.
The election was very emotional for many Iraqis.
Woman proudly giving the v sign with her inked finger after voting.
Many Iraqis proudly held up the v sign displaying their ink stained finger signifying that they voted.

Okay, so now to the part about why I will never be a liberal. On a well known liberal forum (I won’t give them any extra hits by linking to them or giving out their name but many people will be able to figure it out) many of their users right now are all upset by these types of images and anything that could possibly indicate that the Iraqis are happy about being liberated. It’s hard enough to stop my eyes from rolling into the back of my head about most of the comments, but one of them I read just made me see red and realize just how SELFISH some of the liberal left really are. I find it ironic that they are the ones to act like they are the champions of the downtrodden, but yet make statements like this: “Even if all the Iraqis in the world are jumping up and down and clapping and dancing and crying for joy; even if there were really and truly 100% turnout for this election; even if the winner of this election were truly the choice to represent the majority of all Iraqis: Was this worth destroying the United States of America? Was this worth sending our nation tumbling into the toilet? Was this worth destroying our reputation and the worth of our word in the world? Were the lies worth it? Was this worth the billions and billions of dollars emptied from our nation’s treasury?”

The poster went on to complain some more about how much this has cost our country’s reputation and continued to spout things such as “I can’t think of a single cause outside of the borders of my country that would be worth destroying my country for. And that’s what has happened, I don’t care how happy the Iraqis are.” And that, my friend, is why I will never be a liberal. I do not value my reputation higher than my values. I am not so selfish as to think that our country’s reputation or financial prosperity is more important than people living in oppression and being tortured to death. I believe that there are things more important than people liking you, and that is, doing the right thing. See I believe that morals and values are the greatest asset anyone can have and if that makes me unpopular, uncool or disliked, so be it.

To see more pictures from the Iraqi Election Day go here and scroll down the page. Be careful though not to be too happy for these people, after all we’re no longer popular in the world because we helped liberate them. And of course THAT is a bigger tragedy than seeing these people being terrorized by their ‘leader’.

What a full day!

Mindi - 01.29.2005 @ 11:57:pm - -

Today we had quite a full day in spite of the weather forecast that said we were going to have everything from rain to sleet to snow. We started out by going to the Regional Meeting for our region of Ohio Right to Life. It was our year to elect officers and I was elected Chairman of our region. After that we drove to Easton (very nice shopping area in Columbus) and went to see Meet the Fockers. The movie was pretty good, there were a lot of laughs. Of course it does have a lot of language, sexual inuendo and such so obviously it’s not something you would want to take your kids to see. From there we had dinner at the Longhorn Steakhouse, then we finished up our day by doing our grocery shopping for the week. It was a full weekend but we had fun taking a little time out for ourselves from our busy schedule.

I can’t wait for next weekend though since Richard has 3 days off. :) Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we won’t be shoveling or freezing all weekend long.

It’s been one of those weeks

Richard - 01.28.2005 @ 8:12:pm - -

Well as Mindi has told you this has been a pretty hectic week for us. My job can be pretty demanding but I have received a lot of recognition for my work, so that’s at least nice. It helps when you do work that at least seems important ;).

Today Mindi actually played her first real board wargame :). We’re beta testing a game for our side business and she played a turn as Germany crushing puny Poland. We also played some D2 and did some Shrapnel work. On D2 we’re both at level 72 and almost done with Nightmare level. At this point through it takes AWHILE to finish a quest.

So we had a good day today, which was nice after this week. Tomorrow we have a commitment in Columbus and then we are planning on seeing Meet the Fockers.

So that’s it, but I couldn’t pass up passing along this strange link of the week:

Well Another Work Week Is Over

Mindi - 01.27.2005 @ 11:42:pm - -

Well another work week is over for Richard and thank God it is! We are sooooooooo glad the pager is gone and we’re taking the day off he gets in compensation for it next weekend so we will get a break from all the madness lately that has been our lives!

We were busy today running errands before Richard went to work and I decided to get my haircut. Nothing too dramatic though as it’s really too cold to get it cut above the neckline right now. I tend to have a pattern where I let it grow in the winter and cut it short in the summer. I’ve thought about getting a perm lately but whenever I do I have horrible flashbacks to a botched perm I got as a preteen that made me look like I had little orphan Annie hair. I’m just not that brave to try it again! :)

This weekend I would like to be able to say we will get to relax, but we’re not so lucky. We have work to do around the house and for our side job, as well as a regional meeting on Saturday for Ohio Right to Life. Somewhere in there I plan on getting in some downtime though; we even thought about going to the movies but I don’t know if there is anything out right now that really makes me want to go. We have been talking about checking out a couple of places locally to play pool, so maybe we’ll do that.

So here’s to finding something interesting to do this weekend! :D

Just When You Think You’ve Seen It All

Mindi - 01.26.2005 @ 10:36:pm - -

*Disclaimer: foul language quoted in the following post*

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you come across something that just boggles your mind. Today I learned about a disturbing new game that White Wolf Publishing is getting ready to release. “What could be so disturbing?” you may ask. Well Pimp: The Backhanding is what’s so disturbing. Not only disturbing but utterly reprehensible! Pimp is a new card game that brags, “Now you can experience the dizzying highs and soul-bending lows of exploiting women, pushing drugs and dodging undercover cops.”

But let’s not stop there, lets dig deeper into this game. Upon further inspection of some of the game cards you realize just how great a game this is! I mean really, what other game could you play that refers to women as ‘hos’, ‘hoochies’, ‘poontang’, and ‘whores’ among other things. Each of these women are given a value and the goal is to “own” these women. One of the cards talks about how the pimp must backhand his ‘ho’ for wanting to go to college and one of your goals is to “bust up (backhand) your opponents’ ho’s.”

I’ve already heard the “oh it’s just a card game” rhetoric and normally I would agree with that kind of sentiment (people kill people, video games don’t, political correctness has gone to far, etc); HOWEVER, this game just crosses the line on so many levels. Not only is it sexist, but makes light of drug use, violence against women, and is full of racial and ethnic stereotypes. Not to mention that card games are very popular among teenagers and preteens who are still very impressionable and forming opinions on how they view people.

Now I am sure there will be people who think it’s cute, that it’s just making fun of stereotypes and that they’re not trying to encourage violence against women ( they do put a dislaimer about at the bottom of the product page), but I see nothing about what your kids may learn from this game as cute. I mean really, what could be more precious than your teenage boy playing with a game that states, “In the Money Laundering Phase, you score any ho you macked that didn’t get the shit knocked out of her in the Backhanding Phase.” Isn’t that just what you want your kids to be playing with?

I am sure if this were a game that had strong homosexual or racial slurs in it there would be tons of people all up in arms about it, but using sexist slurs and beating up women seems to be acceptable as a joke. This is the background noise of this generation and even though you would not expect your little Tommy or Justin to think in such a way, the acceptance of this type of behavior slowly erodes at the foundation you’ve instilled in your kids. In an age where everyone likes to push the envelope, we have to draw the line somewhere. Are we finally going to say enough is enough or are we going to continue to erode at any decency standards we have left in this country until we become an ‘anything goes’ society with no moral fiber whatsoever?

Oh and did I mention that they’re releasing it on Valentine’s Day? Well isn’t that just sweet and romantic.

Finally!

Mindi - 01.25.2005 @ 11:26:pm - -

Well another week of having the pager is over and what a week it was. :( Richard is at the brink of exhaustion at this point as last week he logged about 12 hours worth of pager time. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was time during the day, but inevitably it’s always time during the night. I don’t think that Richard got more than 5 hours of sleep at any one night in the last 7 days and many nights it’s been only a couple of hours at a time. This weekend it will be nice to relax a little and catch up on our sleep; however, we have a meeting on Saturday morning so we can only sleep in but so much. One good thing though is that we are taking his comp day(for having the pager this week) next Thursday which will give us a 3 day weekend. We’ll need it to catch up on projects because it always seems like during the weeks Richard has the pager that we get nothing done. And I am to the point where if anyone calls him from work while he is off I just might have to disconnect my phone! :P

America’s Holocaust Continues

Mindi - 01.24.2005 @ 6:43:pm - -

March for Life

So another year has passed and another year of slaughtering the innocent among us in the name of ‘choice’. Although the anniversary of Roe v. Wade was actually two days ago, today was the 32nd Annual March for Life in Washington. Richard and I would have loved to go to the march, but with the time off we took during the holidays and the big vacation we took last summer, it just wasn’t possible. Every year thousands of pro-life supporters march through Washington in support of overturning the Roe v. Wade and other murderous legislation and this year was no exception.

President Bush talked to the demonstrators by phone and told them that he shares their support for a “culture of life” in America. “We need most of all to change hearts and that is what we’re doing,” President Bush said, and I wholeheartedly agree with that! This is a battle that has to be two fold, we need to change hearts and minds in America and we must get legislature and judicial officials who are dedicated to respecting ALL life, regardless of age or place of residence. To do the latter we MUST do the former.

Unfortunately today also marked another sad Supreme Court decision for the Right to Life movement as Terri Schiavo’s Law was rejected by the Supreme Court today; therefore, paving the way for Terri’s husband to starve her to death. Yes, that’s right, I said STARVE HER TO DEATH. Anyone who has ever said anything about not wanting to live like someone else is living should be on notice that a passing comment that you make(to one person and without other witnesses) can be misconstrued and twisted in ways you never thought possible. To read more about Terri Schiavo and her parents fight to save her life go here. (Their site may be down at times, they get a lot of traffic)

Another interesting move by one church has the pro-death camp hopping mad today. It seems that Crist Mortuary, that has been working with the Boulder Abortion Clinic in Boulder, CO, has been secretly sending the ashes of cremated babies after their abortions to Sacred Heart of Mary Church for years. The abortionist is furious at the mortuary for giving the remains over to a religious institution without his permission. Yesterday the church held a burial ceremony for hundreds of unborn children they received the remains for from the mortuary. One spokeswoman of the church who helped arrange the service said they wanted to “give dignity to the unborn child”.

The Houston-based parent company that runs hundreds of mortuaries and funeral homes is sticking by Crist Mortuary’s decision to give the ashes to the church stating that the mortuary was only trying to handle the remains of the babies “with respect”. Much to the disappointment of the pro-death groups, the Department of Public Heath stated that the arrangement between the mortuary and the church didn’t violate any laws. The abortionist hasn’t decided if he is going to pursue legal measures, but he states, “My patients are calling, and they’re furious and horrified because they have worked through this”. Wait a second. I’m confused. I thought it was just a blob of tissue and if it was just a blog of tissue, what’s there to work through?

Popcorn!

Mindi - 01.23.2005 @ 11:37:pm - -

I’ve never been a huge fan of popcorn (Richard loves it), but recently I am starting to change my mind. We’ve always had a hot air popcorn popper which normally means you have to add more butter to the popcorn or else it ends up dry. We lost a part off of the popper so I decided to buy a new popper but not the same old style hot air popper. I did a little research and came up with the West Bend Popcorn Popper which allows you to use a little oil to pop the kernels and it stirs them during the popping making almost every single kernel pop.

Well we’ve used it about a half dozen times in the last couple of weeks and I have to say I am impressed with this little machine. It’s easy to make the popcorn, pops relatively quickly and is easy to clean. The machine has a dome lid that doubles as a bowl for the popcorn and holes in the top that you can use to melt butter; they butter will slowly drip into the popcorn and coat it while it is popping and stirring.

When I researched the machine I found a great recipe for kettle corn from one of the reviewers on amazon.com. I absolutely love this recipe and it’s extremely easy to make. :) It does make the bowl a little harder to clean but soaking it in hot soapy water seems to work well. One word of caution I will give to anyone who buys one though is to make sure you don’t tighten down the rotator arm too tight or it can scratch the bottom of the cooking surface and cause some Teflon to come off. All in all I would say this is a great little popcorn popper and highly recommend it to anyone who likes popcorn. For 30 bucks you really can’t go wrong and Richard is very happy to be getting popcorn more often! :D

Another Weekend Gone

Mindi - 01.22.2005 @ 11:21:pm - -

Well it’s Saturday night and for us it’s another weekend gone as Richard has to go back to work tomorrow. On the upside though it means Richard only has two more days to have the pager, and that my friends is a blessing. I hate pager weeks as we never know what to expect so we can never plan accordingly. We can’t go out to the movies because we could have to leave in the middle, we can’t go to Columbus to go shopping because Richard has to be able to get to his computer at home in a reasonable amount of time if an issue comes up, and we can’t go to church because our church is located in an area with no cell coverage. All of this makes for a rather dull or irritating week depending on whether or not the pager stays quiet or if it goes off like crazy (like this week). So five days down, two to go until he gets to give it to someone else.

Today we didn’t get near as much snow as they were originally forecasting, but we did get a small layer of ice in between some of the snow storms leaving the roads a mess; thank goodness we decided not to go out today. However it has kicked my sinuses up a notch. :( Our Cocker Spaniel, Jax, loves to go out in the snow though and if you let him I think he would try to eat all the snow off the ground in the whole yard. I guess he thinks it’s one big ice cube since he loves to eat ice so much! But for the most part we stayed indoors today, got some work done and tried to spend some time together in between Richard’s pager going off. Another weekend gone, here’s hoping for a peaceful week ahead! :D

Brace Yourselves!

Mindi - 01.21.2005 @ 11:46:pm - -

So today was a pretty full day for us and in part because we are bracing for a big winter storm. We are expected to get 4-8 inches of snow within the next 24 hours and winds of 30-40 miles an hour. What does that mean? Well there’s no need to shovel your driveway because it will just blow back over and forget going anywhere because you won’t be able to see to get there. So today we had to go to Newark because my mom had to have outpatient surgery to help facilitate her dialysis. It was basically two seperate procedures. Mom went throught the surgery just fine; unfortunately one of the procedures didn’t work out right so they don’t know what exactly their next step is going to be.

So we left the hospital, had a late lunch with my parents and did some shopping at a great little used game store in Newark. Richard and I both picked up a game and then headed back to Lancaster to do our grocery shopping. Of course with the projected snow fall and weather conditions there were tons of people at the grocery store and we were lucky just to get a cart. We struggled through the store and the long lines before we finally got home, put away the groceries and did as much shoveling in our driveway as possible so we have a little less tomorrow to have to fight with. So we’re ready for the storm and glad to be home and out of the cold weather from today. We have plenty of food and candles if needed and are ready for whatever mother nature has to dish out. But hey, I can think of worse things than being stranded at home with your spouse in a storm. ;)

Big City Politics in a Little Town

Mindi - 01.19.2005 @ 9:06:pm - -

In the town of Lancaster, we’ve had problems with the sheriff’s office for some time now. We’ve had one scandal after another for years that ended with the last Sheriff and his wife going to jail basically for theft in office among other things. So when Dave Phalen, a respected officer from Columbus, ran for sheriff of Lancaster I was happy that we would have someone dedicated to cleaning up the sheriff’s office. I do think Sheriff Phalen is a good man and has done a good job of bringing respectability back to the sheriff’s department in the last few years since he took office. However, lately I am a little irritated with the sheriff’s department and public safety officials.

Shortly after the November election this year, I started hearing about a possible emergency election in February for an .5 % sales tax hike in our county for safety services. It seems they want to build a new jail in town. I will admit that our current city jail is an older downtown building, looks good from the outside, but may need some renovations on the inside, I really couldn’t tell you for sure. Now even if that isn’t possible the city has a minimum security facility in town built in 1996 in a renovated kroger building. It’s less than 10 years since it was totally renovated and could definitely be expanded upward or outward- there’s room there for that. Has the city chose either of these options? No. Have either of these options even been talked about with the public? No. Instead the county bought some land in 2002 at the edge of town and have moved (built a new building in fact) the Bureau of Motor Vehicles there. Now they want to build a new jail out there. They’re not saying it directly, but it’s been insinuated enough times that it’s not hard to figure out and many other county offices are moving out to that land. I think this is being done more out of wanting a nice new building in a nice new area rather than out of functionality, but the fact remains that they were able to get a special election for February 8th.

As soon as this happened, we started seeing a lot of articles in the local paper about how badly these funds are needed. They want a new jail….yeah I get that…….but at who’s expense? The publics expense. How badly do they want this new jail? Bad enough to start using emotional blackmail and scare tactics with the public. They have announced that if Issue 1 doesn’t pass they will terminate sheriff deputies and they will have to cut programs. As time has went along they racheted up the media campaign. They have hammered home about how badly we need a new jail and how they will just hate to have to cut jobs, services and programs but they will have no other choice because the jail is needed so badly.

Now let’s talk about why I am suspicious. Recently in the last few weeks we had the unthinkable–we had a jail break. Supposedly, three men (possibly a fourth but he did not escape with the other three) were able to use something in the jail cell to dig the bars out of the walls and escaped out of the window on the second floor of the jail. All three men were captured within 24 hours and taken back to jail. It was then that the sheriff’s office took the opportunity to talk about, yet again, how badly we need a new jail because the bars in the walls only extend 6 inches or something like that into the concrete walls, how the jail is overcrowded and how because of the jail break we were going to have to ship prisoners to other city’s jails and pay to have them housed elsewhere until repairs can be made.

Is it possible this is just a coincidence? Yes, of course. Do I think it’s likely? No, I don’t. Now I’m not saying the sheriff’s office planned the jail break, but how hard would it be to turn a blind eye to something you know is going on (digging of the bars in the window) if you know you can use it to your political advantage? I’m sure they think now people will be scared into voting for the issue on the ballot for fear that criminals will be roaming the streets. Is that what they acheived with me? No, they have just insured that I will NOT be voting for the issue. I have serious doubts over how my tax dollars are being spent and whether all the options have been explored. Furthermore, I want to know where were the officers that were supposed to be guarding these prisoners? Certainly you can’t dig through 6 or more inches of concrete all the way around 10 or more bars without it taking some time and being noticeable at some point if anyone was paying attention to them at ALL! I also have to wonder why they waited until after the November election to bring this up unless it’s to try to get it passed when there will be less voter turn out.

So what has brought this up? Well we have a coupon magazine for Fairfield County that we get in the mail every three months. We got ours the other day. Well I was going through it yesterday and came across an advertisement for Issue 1 and I see the scare tactics are in full swing now that it’s getting closer to the special election.

Issue 1 scare tactics

Basically I read this ad and interpret it as: your kids are going to be on drugs (they are going to get rid of the D.A.R.E. program), your kids will die when you have an emergency (because they want a new and improved 911 call center and without it our children will suffer with the old 911 call center), you or a loved one in your family will be at risk to be raped or molested (they are not going to update the sex offender list on the sheriff’s website—here’s a clue, go to the state system website they have a master list anyway), crime will go through the roof (they’re going to fire at least 30 sheriff’s deputies and patrol services will be decreased), your house/business will be burglarized (residential vacation watches, business checks, etc will be eliminated) and CRITICAL VITAL services will not be available anymore (yet to be named, but it sure sounds ominous, doesn’t it?).

So I will be voting no on February 8th, if nothing else but for the fact that I don’t like be manipulated into voting for anything; however, in this town I fully expect the fear tactics to work and we will be paying 7 .25% tax very soon. Now, after we are going to have to start paying more for everything we buy here, I see that the City Council is thinking of putting an income tax levy on the ballot in May and we will be paying more for everything we earn. If I wanted to be taxed like Columbus or another big city, I’d live there.

Alpo Soufle

Have you ever noticed that when a debate over some program really degrades it becomes an argument over whether someone can afford X or eat dog food.

I always find this funny since most of the folks who are arguing this in Washington have never really been poor. See if they had been they wouldn’t be arguing that folks who are poor would eat dog food as their primary choice of food. Even at the cheapest dog food is just not the way to go if you don’t have money.

The first year my wife and I were married there was a period where we lived on 15 dollars a week for food. If we had chosen dog food we wouldn’t have made it past Wednesday.

Next time maybe they should consider this instead ;).

It’s Idol Time!

Mindi - 01.18.2005 @ 9:22:pm - -

William Hung

American Idol starts tonight!

Just like Richard said earlier, our DVR is working overtime and tonight is no exception. American Idol is on tonight and I can’t wait to see it. Why didn’t I watch it live? Well it overlaps with The Amazing Race, so I had to make a decision between the two and I decided to wait until Richard and I could watch AI together. It’s much more fun to watch the early rounds of AI with someone else, because watching people who have absolutely no idea how tone deaf they are… is… well…hilarious. Sometimes I feel so bad for some of these people who come on national television and make fools of themselves, but other times I think they KNOW just how bad they sound but are looking for their 15 seconds of fame. Whatever the reason, the earliest rounds are the most entertaining to say the least. However, I am hoping this year there isn’t another catastrophe like there have been the last two years. What am I talking about? Well I really believe the last two shows were fixed or tampered with at the end. I think Clay and Diana both deserved the top spots in their seasons. I didn’t watch the first season so I can’t comment on that season, but the last two have left me very disappointed. Maybe this year will be a good year and talent will win out…….we’ll see.

Brrrrrrrrrr

Mindi - 01.17.2005 @ 11:44:pm - -

Okay, I’m ready for spring! It’s cold! How cold? Well right now it’s about 8 degrees but it’s expected to get colder before the night is over. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love snow, but this year we aren’t really getting decent snow…….just cold and when it does warm up we get rain. There’s been flooding throughout Ohio from all the rain we have been getting and we’ve had some water in our basement. Just about the time we start to dry out, we get more rain or the temperature drops and causes problems with our sump pump. So, I’m ready for spring. I want to be able to go outside and work in my flower gardens, walk out the door without a jacket and feel the sun shining on my face. I want to take a picnic to a park, be able to open the windows and see the ducks waddling through our backyard. I want to walk outside with no shoes on, have some watermelon on a hot day and smell the aroma from cooking hamburgers on the barbecue grill. Basically, I WANT SPRING.

As a side note, today I scanned in and uploaded a whopping 144 pictures. I would like to say that I am done, but alas I still have more to go. Just when I think I am done, I remember where there are more pictures or I decide to include photos I had previously passed on uploading. Hopefully I will be done after tomorrow…….hopefully.

Time to take the pager…

Richard - 01.17.2005 @ 10:45:am - -

Time to take the pager...

Well I guess it’s almost time for me to have fun again. Tomorrow I pick up the pager for our group, and I expect nothing short of the end of the world :).

But then again I have my reputation to uphold. Prior to my current job I worked for a large telecommunication companies web hosting division. We had two folks on-call for all of our production servers, and I was one of those people. So every other week I got to deal with the issues from 100+ servers. The problem was every time I had the pager, the majority of the issues we had would occur. Thats not to say that my counterpart had no pain during his on-call, but primarily if it was broke it happened on my week.

This has followed me to my current job. It isn’t quite as bad as my previous job, but it’s still there.

But it keeps life interesting I guess ;).

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

Mindi - 01.16.2005 @ 11:23:pm - -

Okay, so I have gotten absolutely nothing done today. Well that’s not entirely true, but it feels that way. I am trying to scan in pictures and format them for our gallery. I never realized just HOW MANY pictures we have! I have gotten about 3/4 of the way through our pictures and so far have chosen 175 of those pictures to upload out of about 3000 or more. I expect to upload another 50 or so before I am finally caught up with everything we have developed. I will admit that it’s taking me so long because I am trying to be thorough (I’m putting in descriptions and keywords for each entry), but I think it will all be worth it in the end. So I hope everyone takes some time to look through our pictures and learn a little bit more about what we like to do and where we like to go. Oh, and if you haven’t guessed already, we are in love with everything nautical so expect plenty of pictures of the beach!

Madonna and an Aircraft Carrier

Richard - 01.16.2005 @ 11:11:am - -

Madonna and an Aircraft Carrier walk into a bar...

So Madonna and an Aircraft Carrier walk into a bar…

Okay so you’ve heard that one before.

But seriously…

So I was watching the Tsunami concert NBC was holding, and the first person up is Madonna. This almost makes me switch the channel but I decide to stick it out. Then she does the unimaginable. She beings the concert with Imagine, by John Lennon. Now I understand that is the theme song of the pseudo-intellectual Hollywood crowd, but I think it’s in poor taste during an event like this.

Esther's theme song

Esther, err I mean Madonna, what about Kabala? Well that is if that is still your religion of the week. If there were no religion you wouldn’t be able to redefine yourself as the new spiritual Madonna. Or is it Esther again?

It also insults the various religious charities who are doing much of the heavy lifting in Tsunami relief so far. Sure atrocities have been committed in the name of religion, but they also have in the name of nationalism, anti-globalization, environmentalism, etc. Whenever a major disaster happens the people of faith, whether they be Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or Sikh, rise up and respond to help their fellow man. And they don’t need a media event to do so.

And besides that why do we even need an event like this? If the major Hollywood stars, besides the few that have given large sums of money already, would just give a small chunk of their annual salaries to the relief effort then there wouldn’t even be a need to hold an event like last nights. And of course many of the folks who gave last night more than likely have already given to the other charity events that didn’t require camera time to fulfill.

And now to the Aircraft Carrier….

And now to the Aircraft Carrier...

I came across this blog entry the other week and it reminded me of the same feel good, anti-bush crap I would expect to hear backstage of this event if I were a fly on the wall. Enjoy….

Today, I was “Unprofessional”…
